"What
you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but
what is woven into the lives of others.”~Thucydides
In
Memoriam – Chris Farara
It is with
heavy hearts that we share with you the passing of our Editor, Chris
Farara. He had been unwell for some time, needing frequent
hospitalisation for a number of conditions. Eventually the progression
of inter-related problems and the inability of the best medical
services to overcome the inevitable, Chris passed away on Sunday 21st
April in a hospice in Woking. His family was with him at the end.
Chris had been unable to publish a newsletter since number 67 - winter
2023. With much dedication from the first newsletter in autumn
2002 he provided a lot of glue that held the Members together despite
them being located afar, even internationally. Whilst the
newsletters were not ‘engraved in stone monuments’ they were
collectively a substantial output of work, the equivalent of epic
historical tomes or major publications. In the fullness of
time we hope that a replacement Editor will re-establish the publishing
schedule, but in the meantime the Committee hopes that this combined
effort for newsletter 68 will fill the gap, keep Members up to date and
be aware of developments and plans.
